Members of this prominent Democratic family, including most of Mr. Kennedy’s siblings, had already signaled their support for Mr. Biden. Just as President Biden does today.”“Nearly every single grandchild of Joe and Rose Kennedy supports Joe Biden,” she said. “That’s right: The Kennedy family endorses Joe Biden for president.”Responding on social media, Mr. Kennedy avoided engaging with his family’s rejection of his candidacy. “I know you’re never supposed to reject a gift,” Mr. Kennedy joked as he held them. He then encouraged the roughly dozen people there to volunteer for the Biden campaign, arguing that their help could decide the election.

Opinion | The Kamala Harris Moment Has Arrived

One of Kamala Harris’s most memorable moments during the 2020 presidential election cycle was when, during a Democratic primary debate, she sharply criticized Joe Biden for working with segregationists in the Senate in their shared opposition to busing. She personalized her criticism, saying: “There was a little girl in California who was a part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day. And that little girl was me.”The power in the attack was not only the point being made but that she — a person affected from a group affected — was making it. Although some of Biden’s defenders saw her remark as a gratuitous broadside, there was an authenticity to the way she confronted the issue. The verbal jab also aligned with the national zeitgeist at a time when calls for racial justice and the Black Lives Matter movement were ascendant.

And yes, we know Cuban's tax bill won't go directly to paying for these programs, but for the sake of context, here's what his taxes could have funded. Cuban's $275.9 million contribution to the US government could fully back the department with nearly half still left over. Cuban's million could easily cover congressional paychecks and even account for President Joe Biden's $400,000 salary and Vice President Kamala Harris' $235,100 salary. So, Cuban's $275.9 million wouldn't quite be able to cover the potential three-hour DOD cost at $291,095,890.41. While $275.9 million might not seem like it would make a dent in that astronomical number, every little bit helps!

Katherine Maher, the chief executive of NPR, is facing online criticism for years-old social media posts criticizing former President Donald J. Trump and embracing liberal causes. The posts, published on the social media platform Twitter, which is now called X, were written before she was named chief executive of NPR in January. “Also, Donald Trump is a racist,” read one of Ms. Maher’s posts in 2018, which has since been deleted. Another post, from November 2020, shows Ms. Maher wearing a hat with the logo for the Biden presidential campaign. “Had a dream where Kamala and I were on a road trip in an unspecified location, sampling and comparing nuts and baklava from roadside stands,” Ms. Maher wrote, an apparent reference to Vice President Kamala Harris.

Kamala Harris has become the face of the Biden's campaign attacks on Trump's abortion rights record. AdvertisementVice President Kamala Harris is making sure abortion rights stay at the forefront of the 2024 campaign. During the 2020 Democratic presidential run, then-Sen. Harris said states with a history of restricting abortion rights should be forced to get federal approval before enacting new laws. The campaign also announced that it will spend seven figures in an ad blitz focused on abortion rights in Arizona. Trump, of course, had no say in appointing any of the seven Arizona Supreme Court justices.

Anna Moneymaker/Getty ImagesIn a fundraising appeal ahead of her remarks on abortion in Arizona, Vice President Kamala Harris said she is “horrified” following a state Supreme Court ruling reverting the state to a Civil War-era abortion ban. She issued a stark warning on the threat a second Trump term would pose to abortion rights nationwide. “Donald Trump and GOP lawmakers are rolling back the clock to 1864 —before Arizona was a state, before the Civil War ended, and decades before women could even vote — but they won’t stop here,” Harris warns in the email to supporters. In her speech Friday, Harris is expected to lay the blame around abortion bans like Arizona’s squarely at the feet of former President Donald Trump, who’s taken credit for appointing the justices responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade to the Supreme Court.

Three years ago this month, Vice President Kamala Harris moved into her official residence in northwest Washington, a quiet 73-acre enclave where the U.S. Navy keeps an observatory as well as the nation’s master clock. Near the villa, the team had found something else: A brick foundation of a smokehouse used to cure meat. Ms. Harris did not have to be told who had used it. Well before moving to the new residence, the nation’s first Black vice president had been told by aides about the 34 individuals who once lived on the property against their will. A subsequent opinion essay for CQ Roll Call was the first mention of it in the news media.

Read previewDonald Trump's hush money trial remained on track for Monday jury selection after the judge on Friday night denied — in no uncertain terms — a defense bid to delay the trial indefinitely due to prejudicial pretrial publicity. "This is not tenable," the trial judge, New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan , said in his decision, noting that much of the pretrial publicity has been caused by Trump himself. "Defendant appears to take the position that his situation and this case are unique and that the pre-trial publicity will never subside," the judge wrote in Friday's decision. The poll "provides no information about how it obtained the contact information of respondents or how it ensured its samples were actually random or representative," the judge wrote. Last week, Trump lost a Manhattan appellate court bid for an emergency delay of the trial on pretrial publicity grounds.

Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Arizona on Friday to assail former President Donald J. Trump over abortion restrictions, with plans to blame him for bans in the state and across the country. In her remarks at a rally in Tucson, Ms. Harris will lean into the Biden campaign’s new attack line on laws pushed by Republicans that have cut off abortion access for millions of American women: Donald Trump did this. This week, Arizona became the center of the national debate on reproductive rights after a ruling by the state’s top court upheld an 1864 law banning nearly all abortions. The decision gave Democrats around the country an opportunity to focus their races on abortion rights, a strategy that has led to unexpected victories for the party over the last two years. The Biden campaign has already released two new ads this week hammering Mr. Trump on abortion.

CNN —The Biden administration on Thursday moved one step closer to enacting a rule requiring people who sell firearms online and at gun shows to conduct background checks on their potential customers. The finalized rule aims to close what gun control advocates call the “gun show loophole” by increasing the requirements to obtain a federal firearms license, or FFL, by more specifically defining what it means to be “engaged in the business” of selling firearms. By making the term more definitive, the Justice Department has said it aims to better regulate the market and encourage higher compliance with the federal background check requirement. “I do believe countless families and communities will be spared the horror and the heartbreak of gun violence by this new rule.”The finalized rule, which will appear in the Federal Registry, will go into effect in 30 days. Already, the rule is facing criticism from conservative lawmakers and gun rights advocates, including the National Rifle Association.

In a meeting with her staff last week, Vice President Kamala Harris offered a prediction: Former President Donald J. Trump would not support a national abortion ban. Kari Lake, the leading Republican candidate for Senate in Arizona, was quick to denounce the state Supreme Court’s ruling upholding an 1864 law banning nearly all abortions in the state. But in that 2022 appearance, Ms. Lake cited the 1864 law’s number in the Arizona state code. But the revival of the 1864 law in Arizona amounts to something of a nightmare scenario for Republicans in the state. Starting in the 2022 midterms and in governors’ races, special elections and ballot measures, the abortion issue has helped Democrats notch victories across the country. The Democrats also trained their focus on Ms. Lake, posting other remarks from 2022, during which she expressed strict anti-abortion stances.
